Retaining Walls in Sacramento

Concrete Block and Stackable Walls
Stackable concrete block walls are the most common way to hold back a slope, level a yard or raise a lawn or planting bed. Salen’s Landscaping builds them on a compacted base with drain rock and drain pipe behind the wall, so water does not build up and push the wall over time.
Stone, Brick and Poured Concrete
For a more finished look we build walls in natural stone, stone veneer and brick, and pour concrete walls where strength or a clean modern line matters most. Low seat walls and planter walls can double as extra seating around a patio.

Built to Drain
Most wall failures come from water, not weight. Every wall we build gets proper footing, backfill and drainage, and we tie it into the yard’s drainage and grading so the area behind it stays dry.
Walls That Finish the Yard
A retaining wall usually comes with steps, a new lawn or planting above it, and sometimes lighting or a fence on top. One crew handles all of it, from removal of the old wall to the final planting.

From Site Visit
to a Finished Wall

We start with a free site visit to look at the slope, soil, drainage and what the wall needs to hold. You get a written quotation with the wall type, height, length, drainage and cost. Our crew excavates, sets the base and first course, builds the wall with drain rock and pipe behind it, backfills in layers and finishes the top, then hauls away the extra soil.
Retaining Wall Questions
Do I need a permit for a retaining wall?
Taller walls, and walls holding up a driveway or building, usually need a permit and sometimes an engineer from your city or county. Most low garden walls do not. We tell you at the site visit whether yours is likely to need one.
Which wall material is best?
Concrete block is the most economical for most slopes. Stone and brick cost more but give a richer look. Poured concrete suits taller or very straight walls. We can price more than one option.
Can you fix a leaning or cracked wall?
We build new walls rather than repairing old ones. If a wall has failed, we can remove it and build a new one with proper drainage.
How long does it take?
A typical garden wall takes a few days. Long or tall walls take longer; the quotation lists the timeline.
Can I finance a retaining wall?
Yes, 100% financing is available.
